Set to join Golden Guardians Academy
January 3, 2018
Xpecial will join Golden Guardians' academy team for the 2018 Spring Split, ESPN's Jacob Wolf reports.
The veteran support moves to Golden Guardians after finishing 2017 as a member of Phoenix1. Xpecial gives the roster a veteran presence on a team that consists of four amateur players around him.
Strong performance throughout defeat against Team SoloMid
August 7, 2017
Xpecial earned a series KDA of 0/4/21 in P1's 0-2 loss against TSM on Saturday.
Picking Braum in Game 1, Xpecial paired well with his lane partner Kog'Maw to pick up several early kills for his team. Despite finding a decent footing in lane and creating these picks, the rest of P1 struggled immensely, allowing TSM to take the game in convincing fashion. Game 2 went much better as P1 found an early lead, largely due to Xpecial's Thresh. Unfortunately, this success was short-lived as the team seemingly had no idea how to push their lead to secure a victory. Although he was defeated, Xpecial earned 100 percent kill participation in the series, showing his skill despite the loss.
Great synergy with Braum-Kalista duo in series
July 31, 2017
Xpecial posted a 1/9/22 KDA in Phoenix1's reverse sweep of Counter Logic Gaming on Sunday.
In Game 1 Xpecial's Bard wasn't very impactful as he put together a 0/5/2 KDA performance. Phoenix1 struggled to coordinate a winning teamfight as CLG ran away with a lead. Xpecial was put on Braum the rest of the series and made a much better wombo-combo with Arrow's Kalista. After getting small leads during the laning phase, Xpecial racked up assists following Arrow around the rift. Phoenix1 looked much better as a team as it quickly pushed its advantage in Game 3 to close out the series.
Solid Taric performance receives ban in Game 3
July 22, 2017
Xpecial finished Phoenix1's series loss to Cloud9 on Friday with a 1/12/28 KDA.
In Game 1 Xpecial wasn't able to do much protecting on Janna as P1 got dominated in teamfights. Xpecial didn't have a great laning phase and things weren't any better late as P1 had poor shotcalling and couldn't secure any objectives in the Game 1 loss. In Game 2 Xpecial had a much better 1/1/18 KDA performance on Taric. P1 drafted a terrifying late game team composition that started to come alive in the second half. Xpecial could just pop Cosmic Radiance to kick off P1's engage and bulldoze the way to victory. In Game 3 Xpecial switched to Alistar, but wasn't able to be as good of frontline tank. Xpecial often got singled out and taken down early in teamfights and Unbreakable Will couldn't save him. P1 was aced as it tried to defend its Nexus.
Can't keep momentum rolling after solid Game 2
July 17, 2017
Xpecial finished Phoenix1's 2-1 series loss to Team Dignitas on Sunday with a 0/9/22 KDA.
Xpecial struggled to provide good protection on Thresh in Game 1 as P1 got destroyed in teamfights. While trying to clear waves under turrets, he often got pulled by Blitzcrank's Rocket Grab and killed before the rest of DIG turret dove and killed the rest of P1. In Game 2, Xpecial had a much better performance on Braum as he put together a 0/2/14 KDA. Once P1 grouped up and forced objectives, it smashed through Dignitas, winning in under 25 minutes. Xpecial couldn't repeat his performance on Braum in Game 3. None of his Glacial Fissures could fully stop Dignitas from winning trades late and P1's base was demolished.
Deathless in victory over G2
July 11, 2017
Xpecial earned a 1/0/16 KDA on Braum through his team's victory over G2 on Friday.
Despite finding himself at a disadvantage early on, Xpecial had a remarkable performance that allowed his team to bounce back and defeat G2. After falling behind, he grouped with key members of his team to utilize his passive and create picks, allowing Phoenix 1 to find a way back into the game. After getting a couple kills under his belt, he started controlling vision, allowing even more kills to go the way of his team. Once at a slight lead, he paved the way for back-to-back teamfight victories, hitting clutch ultimates and stunning key targets. In doing so, Phoenix 1 was able to take a 39-minute victory.
More kills than his AD carry
July 5, 2017
Xpecial finished P1's loss to Fnatic with a 2/1/4 KDA as Morgana.
Xpecial was involved in six of seven P1 kills and finished the game with more kills than Arrow. He had an assist on first blood and was involved in P1's first three kills of the game. Despite playing fairly well, P1 lacked damage in late-game teamfights, a problem that Xpecial was unable to really help them overcome.
Solid Thresh plays in reverse sweep
July 3, 2017
Xpecial finished Phoenix1's 2-1 series victory against Immortals on Sunday with a 2/10/19 KDA.
Xpecial tried to counter Thresh with Tahm Kench in Game 1, but it didn't work out well. He got caught for first blood and wasn't much help after besides making a few saves with Devour. P1 got destroyed in the first game and Xpecial was no exception as he finished with a 0/5/2 KDA. The rest of the series Xpecial picked Thresh and put together his best performance on him in Game 2. Xpecial started to rake in the assists when P1 started to roam in the second half and finished with a 2/1/10 KDA. Game 3 didn't go as well as Xpecial got caught out throughout the mid game, dying without a kill or assist to make up for it. P1 still ran away with a lead late after a Baron power play laid waste to IMT's base.
Consistent performance throughout hardfought series victory
July 1, 2017
Xpecial finished Phoenix1's series victory against Team EnVyUs on Friday with a 1/5/30 KDA.
Xpecial stuck with Braum throughout the series and consistently put up solid KDAs. In every game he seemed to be in the right spot, whether it was to shield his carries or help chase down someone with Winter's Bite. Once Xpecial started Braum's Concussive Blows on a target, it was tough for the member of EnVy to escape. While Game 1 went smoothly for P1, it struggled to push its advantages in Games 2 and 3. Thankfully in Game 3, the problems were fixed by managing the side lane pressure and pulled out a victory in the 57-minute marathon.
Falters in performance with new team
June 27, 2017
Xpecial earned a series KDA of 1/13/26 in his defeat against Liquid.
Throughout the series against Liquid, Xpecial struggled to get things done. He started off Game 1 with a lackluster Braum showing, failing to create picks despite his team's early advantages. In the game, he was unable to control vision, allowing Liquid to bounce back in the game and take the victory from under his hands. He rebounded quickly in Game 2, picking Thresh and showing his proficiency on the champion. In doing so, he was able to create picks and push his team's lead throughout the extended 51-minute game. With the victory under his belt, the series was brought to a final Game 3. In the final game, he found himself on Braum and struggled. Unable to find a lead in lane, he allowed Liquid to find their own lead and had no way back into things. As the game progressed, he was able to help his team pick up some kills, but it didn't pan out. With the enemy team playing on top of their game, he could not stop his team from being defeated. Due to the enemy's strong play, Phoenix1 was defeated 2-1 in the series.
Transfers to Phoenix1
June 17, 2017
Xpecial will be transferred to Phoenix1, Team Dignitas announced on Friday.
It's a bit of a surprising move, given Team Dignitas is sitting near the top of the NA LCS Summer Split standings with a 3-1 record, but Xpecial seemed like a bit of luxury given starting support, Big, has been a bit of a revelation early on. Xpecial could take over as starting support for Shady as Phoenix1 looks to rebound from a dreadful start to the Summer Split, but given Shady has actually performed well at times (13/21/50 KDA on the season) both players may end up sharing the role at times.
Passable in loss
April 9, 2017
Xpecial went an overall 5/9/18 as Dignitas took a 0-3 loss to Phoenix1 on Saturday.
Xpecial's Game 1 on Lulu started out well, as he went 1/0/3 off two early skirmishes in the bot lane. However, the late game is where Xpecial's struggles began, as he had an extremely difficult time keeping his teammates alive against the hyper-fed Syndra of Ryu. After the Game 1 loss,l Xpecial switched to Nami. The game started off badly, as LOD's Caitlyn died early on for first blood in the 2-vs-2. The rest of Xpecial's game was a demonstration of how hard it is to look good on support when your team is getting stomped. He picked up assists on three of Dignitas' four kills, but it wasn't nearly enough to find a win. In Game 3 Xpecial went with Malzahar, and while he was able to find some picks with Nether Grasp, he sometimes went too far out of position in search of them, getting caught out and killed. His 3/3/7 KDA in the loss wasn't bad, but once again, he couldn't make enough of an impact to get a game win.
Nice mage play
March 28, 2017
Xpecial has a nice series by going 2/9/28 in KDA as DIG defeated IMT on Sunday.
Although they are much different champions and have much different utility, Xpecial was able to put forth good performances on both Lulu and Malzahar. In Game 1, he gave up first blood, but was able to rebound and lead his team with 12 assists. In Game 2, he died a few too many times, but his Nether Grasps during team fights made up for the gold he gave to the opposition by dying.
Bad Day vs C9
March 26, 2017
Xpecial puts forth a poor showing with 0/12/20 KDA in loss to C9 on Friday.
There is little doubt that Xpecial was the weakest link for Dignitas on Friday. Where his teammates often started strong, he struggled to get off the ground. The story of the series for Xpecial was dying too often at bad times, which prevented DIG from transitioning early leads to game victories.
Mediocre against Phoenix1
March 4, 2017
Xpecial ended Dignitas' 1-2 loss to Phoenix1 with a KDA of 2/7/11.
Starting out the series on Zyra, Xpecial struggled to find an advantage in lane due to the sustain and poke from the opposing Nami/Ashe lane. Later on, his missed point-blank snare resulted in a lost skirmish for Dignitas. He redeemed himself somewhat a few minutes later, landing a great Stranglethorns to help Dignitas win a fight to secure Baron. His snare and ultimate nearly turned the next teamfight in DIG's favor, but ultimately P1 took the game. Xpecial went with Tahm Kench in Game 2, and was largely unimpactful. He helped DIG chase down the two kills that gave them Baron at 22 minutes, but he wasn't very important to the play, and his only other assists were picked up as DIG were ending the game. He stuck with Tahm Kench regardless in Game 3, and once again failed to get anything going. This time around, it was P1 with the huge lead, allowing them to take the series over Dignitas.
